Frequently Asked Questions:
How much does a portrait cost?Custom Airtoons portraits are $199.99 USD per portrait, plus shipping/handling.
What is included for the price?
The cost includes the portrait print itself, printed on glossy archival acid-free paper, framed and matted
in a black frame (8" x 10.5" x 1"), packing materials, and last but not least: my time to create your
personalized work of art! Shipping/handling is an additional flat rate of $15.00 within the US, $45.00 outside the US.
Can you make pets/animal portraits too?
Of course!
How many people can I have in my portrait?
Portraits that will contain 4 or more people will require a custom quote. Please contact me for more info!
How long will it take?
I like to give each portrait the individual attention and time it deserves. Usually turnaround time for proofs
depends on my current workload and the complexity of your portrait.
As a general rule, you'll typically have your proof emailed to you in4-7 business days. Currently, the time to expect a proof is around 2 weeks. It should be no longer than
an additional 2 days afterwards to make any tweaks, run the print, package it up and ship it out!
As a general rule, you'll typically have your proof emailed to you in
I like (planes, trains, dirtbikes, seahorses, etc.) could you make an Airtoons portrait of that?
Of course! It's up to you what you'd like in your portrait.
Is this a scam?
No! I am a 29 year old art school graduate. Airtoons has been a hobby of mine since 1999. I'd be glad
to talk to you more about who I am and why I'm doing this over a cup of coffee or some email.
What is a pigment ink print?
It's a name given to a specific process and type of ink. A
unique micro-dispersion of extremely fine pigment particles allows an extraordinary amount of colorant
to be used. They print with practically no metamerism, offer the best combined (archival!) longevity &
color gamut, and basically, they're pretty sweet.
What does "archival" mean?
Archival in this case basically means the image won't get discolored, ruined, etc. to a period of
100 years+. Your portrait will be printed using archival inks and paper, which will allow you to enjoy it for a lifetime. The ink is also humidity resistant!
Can I have my portrait in different sizes?
At this time the only size offered is an 8"x10" (matted to a 5"x7" image) print.
How do I place an order for a portrait?
It's easy! Just click the Buy Now button above, complete the checkout
process, email me your photo(s), put your seat back and enjoy the ride!
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover Card, and E-Checks thanks to Paypal.
What kind of photo do I have to submit?
You can submit digital photos or actual pictures! The photo(s) should
be in focus, and relatively close-up. You know, portrait-style! Don't worry about things like cluttered
backgrounds or red eyes, I can fix that. Also, if you'd like to send a few different pictures of the subject matter, I can use
the one I think will work the best.
How do I submit my photo(s)?
You'll have a chance to email me your digital photos after the
checkout process.
Can I use a professionally shot photo?
Yes you can, however you'll need to ask the photographer for a
copyright release since these photographs are copyrighted and owned by the photographer. You can
download a simple release form here, and submit
it with your photo. I will confirm the release information prior to beginning work on your portrait.
Can I give an Airtoons Portrait as a gift if I don't have a photo of the person?
Sure, just leave the gift receiver's contact information in the
"portrait details" and I will contact them for a photo.
How can I be sure what kind of portrait I will get?
Take a look at the rotating samples at the top of the page. That's pretty much
how yours will turn out. In your "portrait details" text field during the checkout process, you can suggest colors you
like, what type of background you'd like to see, etc. Keep in mind that you will get your proofs emailed to you before your
portrait is actually printed and framed, in case you'd like any minor last-minute tweaks. I definitely want you to be
happy with how it turns out.
Can I request revisions after I have received my proof(s)?
Yes. I'm happy to make a few basic revisions to your portrait, such as changing colors,
modifying the background, trimming down a person's cheek bones, etc. Any major changes requested after you are provided with your proof may lead to delays of up to a week (depending on the amount of changes) in your portrait's production, and may require additional artwork fees of $80/hour with a 1 hour minimum charge. Please be as specific as possible when requesting revisions.
How is my completed portrait delivered to me?
Your portrait will be carefully packed and shipped via UPS Ground. A tracking number will be emailed to you after your portrait has shipped. (USPS global for our international friends.)
How much will it cost to ship my portrait?
There is a flat shipping/handling fee of $15.00 USD. (Well, unless you're shipping to
internationally for $45.00) This cost covers all of the packing materials, postage, and my time spent packing/shipping your portrait.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! International shipping is $45.00 USD.
How should my Airtoons Portrait be cared for?
Most importantly, as with any art, your portrait should never be
placed in direct sunlight. Other than that, just dust the frame carefully.
Who retains copyright on the work?
The artist (me!) retains all copyrights to all images from the moment of creation, and is ordinarily given a term enduring for the artist's life, plus an additional 70 years after the artist's death. Crazy huh?
How tall are you?
I am 6'1" tall.
